What's working for our Palliative Team...
I'm sure many of you may work on a team. The challenges of this year and highlighted the need of being on a team, as we all know it has many benefits for both patients and as providers. However, it's been challenging to feel like a "team" most weeks.
Our team has struggled with first needing to work nearly all virtual. Using the phone for rounds, team meetings, and collaboration has been helpful, but not always fulfilling. It's hard to judge what's being said--"was he sharing because he needs more help?" or "is she rolling her eyes at me again?" You know you can relate!
In an effort to help my team, I've been working really hard to get everyone onboard with video meetings--using MS Teams, Webex, Zoom--whatever your institution has. We all have noticed how much more connected we are. Even with us working on campus, we have to split up and work out of separate spaces to maintain our institutions provider distancing guidelines.
Here's what's working for us:
--MS Teams is proving to be a useful tool. At our institution is secure for HPI and we use for both text/chat but also now video rounds and check-in (we round daily each morning and check-in at 3pm each day to catch up on new consults and how everyone is doing)
--Webcams--we just discovered this amazing gem--The Meeting Owl--this ingenious tool captures a 360 view of the room and moves to those who are speaking, even splitting the view window to show people on opposite sides of the room in conversation. A great tool for socially distanced spaces and reading non-verbal cues from our teammates.
--Weekly virtual space for people to just jump in and share, see each other, with no agenda.
These are just a few things I've been working on with my team.
Would love to hear what others are doing!
Thanks & Take Care and Stay Well Everyone!
