There are several opportunities for advocacy this month.  Please step up and participate--Tweet, Post, Write, and Respond and let our PA voices be heard in several important forums!

  • Help Move PCHETA forward! --The Senate again plans to move forward on their version of Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA) legislation previously passed in the House.  Visit our PAHPM ADVOCACY PAGE to learn more and find ways to contact your Senators.  If you live in a "Red" state--we may need your help encouraging your Senator(s) to sign on to the bill.
  • June 22, 2022 --VIRTUAL Lobby Day 2022!  Please be ready to post your support for PCHETA, #PAsDoingPalliative, and other important issues to PAs by Tweeting, Sharing or liking a PAHPM Tweet!

We Made it to the Finish Line!

Wow!  Thanks for making AAPA 2022 in Indianapolis a huge success!

PAHPM and it's members were humbled to be recognized for our accomplishments in advocacy, education, and collaboration with an Honorable Mention for the 2021 Constituent Organization (CO) Outreach and Advocacy Award.  Thank you to our President, Kathy Kemle, Director, Nadya Dimitrov and all of our members for helping lead us through the last couple years.

PAHPM members receive Honorable Mention; Left to Right, Rich Lamkin, Donna Seton, Amy Allen (AAPA, Chair of Constituent Relations Work Group), Kathy Kemle, Jeff Myers, Nadya Dimitrov

Despite a smaller attendance in Indianapolis, PAHPM once again was well-represented with several panel discussion on opening day.  These were well-attended, interest was great, and comments were overwhelmingly positive.  Thank you for all of our panelists!

It was also exciting to see all who were able to stop by our PAHPM Booth.  This year we noted increased interest from practicing PAs, which was exciting to see as it is representative to the need for serious-illness care in all disciplines.

We look forward to another year of growth, and story-telling in 2023 in Nashville at next years conference!

Looking Ahead

PAHPM has a number of exciting things ahead of us in the coming months!

  • THE EVA DIMITROV, MD & PAHPM STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP: Now Accepting Applications!

Our annual student scholarship application cycle is now open! For complete details on the scholarship and how to apply, check out the PAHPM Student Scholarship Info & Application page.

Please share this link with PA students interested in serious-illness care and your PA programs.
  • PAHPM will be working on Title Change.  Watch for coming announcements!

  • PAHPM and PAs will be guest panelists at this years 2022 NHPCO Virtual Interdisciplinary Team Conference, this September.  PAHPM members Judy Knudson and Jeff Myers will be joined by AAPA Regulatory and Legislative leads to help share how PAs can participate in hospice care, and where more work still needs to be done.  This year's focus is on workforce issues, and we are prepared to share just how much a PA could add to a palliative and/or hospice interdisciplinary team!

Career and Job Resources

We are launching an additional member benefit--best practices in career and jobs in palliative medicine and hospice care.  We field questions regularly about institutions and employers not offering palliative jobs to PAs.  As was said at the Annual Conference in Indianapolis, "that's hogwash!"

Check out our new members-only Careers Page for tips and tricks (make sure you login to access!).  We plan to update this regularly.  We also encourage you to post your question, comments and successes in the PAHPM Member Forum on this topic.  We hope we can all learn from each other and continue to show that there are #PAsDoingPalliative!
